MP from Hakkari defends Roj TV appearance

Hurriyet; Monday, November 28, 2005 11:08

Main opposition Republican People's (CHP) Party MP Esat Canan from Hakkari has deflected attention to his appearance on the Kurdish television station Roj TV to other directions, claiming that prior to him, MPs from the ruling AKP Party and opposition ANAVATAN had also appeared on Roj TV.

Justice and Development (AKP) Party MP from Adiyaman, Ahmet Faruk Unsal apparently took part in a program on Roj TV before the government's current stance on the television station was known. Noting that he had appeared prior to the EU's December 17 vote to give Turkey a date for EU accession talks, Unsal said that had used his appearance on Roj TV to answer questions on Turkey's EU process, and that he had said nothing that went against the government.
